‘Tis the end of the year and the end of another season. Now is when we take time out to reflect on what has happened during the year.
Bombora Downs has seen the arrival of a new stallion, Warhorse (NZ). Our web site has replays of some of his wins. The son of General Nediym, has been well received, and we’ve had nearly 80 mares covered by this Group 1 winner. Not a bad effort given his late arrival on the stallion roster.
The first winner for Therock was posted during the spring, and we’re sure we can expect some more in the New Year.
Escado, a boy we raised, grazed, and gave an excellent education to, was able to give his connections two Group 3 wins during the year, so that was a big thrill.
On the foal front, we’ve delivered nearly 80 (there are still a couple to go) this season. The colts have pipped the fillies on the post. Our busiest week, the first week of October had 10 arrive. There was a double up in the foal yards that week!
In the first half of the year, the 2014 arrivals were weaned, and yearlings from the 2013 season were prepared for the Melbourne sales. We were busy breaking-in for a good part of the year, with these boys and girls now heading off to their respective trainers. We wish all the connections the best of luck for their future racing careers.
So what is to come in the new year? The start of the journey of the Jungle Ruler’s with breaking-in and subsequently off to the trainers. His progeny are strong, athletic types and he did place as an Autumn 2yo so we may have a runner or 2 in the Spring. It will be interesting to hear the trainer’s comments once they get through their first preparation. Therock’s first Victorian sired progeny will be off to the races as late 2yo’s or Spring 3yo’s. Covering a much larger book of mares, we are expecting to see some good results. Plus of course, there is DNA testing and weaning for this year’s babies, breaking-in for last year’s crop and the Sales. So, there’s never a dull moment!
So as this year comes to a close, from everybody at Bombora Downs we wish you a Merry Christmas, and all the very best for the safe and happy New Year, may it be a winning one in all things racing. See you next year!
