The New and the Old
The new boys on the block are starting to have their progeny hit the track, while the old stager can still produce the winners, week in week out.
We have been patiently waiting, and it has finally happened. THEROCK has had his first to the races. Glowing Rock, a bay filly from the Snippetson mare Sun Glow, had her first race last week at Ascot in WA. A trial winner a couple of weeks before with Sportsbet commenting: “GLOWING ROCK showed a nice turn of foot in her trial win. The wide draw makes it tricky as she might need to settle close to the rear however if she gets a cart into the race she will be in the finish”. However, coming from the outside barrier, she went forward and crossed the field to sit outside the leader. Hitting the front around the turn, she was still up there with 100m to go. The early speed then took its toll but she fought on gamely to finish 4th. A very nice run that will stand her in good stead for fitness and experience.
In the last couple of months ANNENKOV has had his first progeny to the races. One girl in particular, Kovante (Annenkov (IRE) x Bel Diamante (Clang)) a 3yo bay filly, had her first run at the races at Ballarat last week. Her run as described by her owners O.T.I. racing: “Kovante’s effort in her first up run at Ballarat today was very good. From the wide gate, she was ridden forward to eventually get outside the leader. She then stuck on to her task well until about the 150m mark where she weakened a little when finishing the race. She finished 5th. Patrick Moloney (jockey) had a very positive assessment of this mare. He said that she was great in the wind, had a good action and would clearly win races over a mile plus. Archie (Alexander – trainer) was also very happy with the horse’s first-up effort and believes she will improve significantly on today’s run. This mare is still quite flighty. It was necessary for her to be walked across the track from Archie’s stables. As you may have seen, she was also a little fractious going into the barriers. Hopefully both traits will wane as she gains more experience. This filly is off to a good start, so let’s hope we can look forward to a nice career with her“. Something to look forward to.
LAGO DELIGHT, in less than a week has sired three winners on country tracks. First off was his 9yo daughter, Jetstyle Express (ex Miss Jetsetter (Dieu D’Or)), over 1000m. The following day, Stynes (ex Tara’s Range (Polish Laughter (USA)) a 7yo bay gelding, won the Diggers Cup at Deniliquin over 1600m. And then just a couple of days on, Mister Cool (ex Common Style (Common Grounds (GB)) an 8yo chestnut gelding, wins going away on the Geelong Synthetic over 1900m. All of these horses have now earned over $100,000 and they haven’t finished their careers yet. One thing you can count on with a Lago Delight, you will get a tough, sound race horse.
JUNGLE RULER’s weanlings are looking good. Just you wait until they start hitting the track.
