Bombora Downs does have an enviable record at Melbourne Yearling Sales. Our drafts may not be the biggest nor bring the big sale prices, but if racing results are what counts, our offerings do the job at the highest level.
At the 2009 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale we presented a bay colt by Testa Rossa from the Flying Spur mare, Fine Glass. This young lad was raised on the farm, and was later named Speediness, now the winner of 7 races, one at Group 3 and two at Listed level, and the winner of over $1,000,000.
Then on to the sales in 2011. At Melbourne Premier, we offered another bay colt, this time by young sire, Casino Prince out of the Giant’s Causeway mare, Secret Cause. This boy was not only raised on the farm, but also broken-in, and as Escado won the Group 1 SA Derby. He has now gone on to win 3 times, and amassed over $533,000 in prize money.
At the Autumn sale of the same year, now known as the VOBIS sale, we again presented a bay colt, by Court of Jewels from the Snippets mare, Gold and Red. This boy first named Orlov was on-sold to Hong Kong, and renamed Full Talent. In his 11 starts to date, he has won 5, been placed 4 times and has won over $600,000. A black type race could be just around the corner.
We do present fillies, and the 2012 Premier sale saw a bay filly by Bel Esprit from Secret Cause, a half-sister to Escado. Named Se Sauver, she won twice, once at Group 2 level with prize money of just over $192,000. Unfortunately injury curtailed her career early, and she has now joined the broodmare ranks, with a visit to Fastnet Rock.
Others presented have gone on to win races around the country. All are the result of well-educated and well-presented yearlings from Bombora Downs.
