We attend most Melbourne Sales and are happy to discuss your requirements. However a Sales preparation is not just an 8 week process, to be completed a week or so before the sale. A Sales preparation (and the breaking-in process as well) starts on the day the foal is born. This young horse needs to know that a human being is a friend, not something to be afraid of. This allows the foal and upcoming yearling to have confidence around people. Then while the young foal is growing, any leg issues need to be attended to. So they learn then to lift their feet and stand quietly while a farrier’s keen eye can see to a trimmed hoof to help that slight turned out look. Weaning sees halters being used to learn to lead and stand straight. Loading on and off a float and travel are other lessons to be learned at this stage. Continuing handling over the winter months sees the young horse learning to be caught and accept the pokes and prods of those pesky horse trainers looking for their next champion. So what is actually in a yearling preparation? Well learning to live in a box, to walk quietly and to stand and of course put muscle on shoulders and rumps so that the power of the horse can be seen. Oh and learning how to have a shower! This is the icing on the cake to show your yearling at its best. A pedigree page can only go so far, the look of the horse will turn heads and at Bombora we prepare your yearling to have people turning their heads for all the right reasons – a beautifully turned out, well-adjusted yearling showing the prospective buyer all the best qualities of the horse.
