Busy Spring Time
The last 3 months have been very busy at the farm delivering the future “Champions on the Racetrack”. A slow start in August with 11 arriving. Must admit it was a bit chilly overnight when these seven fillies and four colts came into the world. It started to warm up in September and so did the arrivals, with 27 greeting the world. The boys outdid the girls this month, with fifteen colts and twelve fillies.
However come October with rain and thunderstorms some nights, and sunshine during the day, up came the green grass. We had 44 arrivals with the count going to the fillies twenty-five to nineteen. On seven occasions three arrived in one night, a very busy time!
Each of these 82 arrivals were watched over by our experienced staff, and any mare that needed a little extra help, they were happy to step in and give her a hand thus ensuring a safe delivery (for both mare and foal). At times, the foals needed that extra TLC, and these were moved to the “ICU” area so that they can be better monitored. The farm has a good number of foaling yards and boxes to better look after that budding champion. Many a happy owner have come to see their new arrival plus quite a few photos have found their way through the internet.
There is still at least two months to go before the last of the foals are born. A tiring but exciting time of the year. Good luck to all the owners of these budding champions.
