The End of Another Year
The last of foals and last of the coverings as 2021 closes.
2021 Season
The 2021 season has come to a close with the last foal being born midnight on 2nd January 2022. A very nice quarter horse colt. That brings the total to 125 foal downs with 62 colts and the fillies at 63. We had mainly thoroughbreds with a few standardbreds, warmbloods, quarter horses and a couple of ponies. We had our last walk-on just before New Year and we are waiting on one last lady to cycle for our stallions. Breeding for 2021 is slowly winding down.
2022 Sales Season
The Sales season will be next with Bombora Downs being entrusted to prepare 12 yearlings for the Melbourne Premier sale at the end of February. Sales preparation kicks off at the beginning of January. More information next month.
Stallions
Dandino (GB) had his second metropolitan winner when SHEZADANDI saluted at Sandown mid-week over 1800m. ADANDIMAN also added a couple of very close placings to his growing CV.
Warhorse (NZ) mare TOOTS IS TOPS had an excellent month with 2 WINS from as many starts. She also kept the winning form going over the New Year weekend, notching up her 3rd win in a row. SWING WITH JUNIOR also made a winning start to 2022 winning over 1000m. NEEDLEWORK after notching up her first win in November has gone on to placings both at Sandown and at The Valley, going down by a very small margin.
Jungle Ruler had another first-time winner during the month, GREY EAGLE. From limited runners, Jungle Ruler can seem to notch up some winners on a regular basis
Another great month for the BOMBORA DOWNS stallions.
Looking Forward
As the breeding season winds down and the Sales season takes off, there is plenty of other work progressing at Bombora Downs. The new fencing will be progressing at Beds For Tails, to add yards and boxes to the growing nursery for the yearlings. Then the 2021 foals will be weaned over the coming months with the oldest having been branded and vaccinated in December and DNA test kits requested.
We hope all our clients, friends and followers have had time over the Christmas/ New Year break to catch up with family and friends that have been parted for so long. Thank you all for choosing us to look after your precious horses and we hope that 2022 is a happy, healthy and exciting one for everybody.
