News and Update for August 2020

The foals have started to arrive; thirteen to the end of August, six fillies, seven colts.

Foaling
A very pretty Gypsy Cob brings a bit of colour to the group along with 3 chestnuts and 6 bays. The waiting room is ticking over nicely and we’ve thoroughbreds and warm bloods on the way. The Bombora Downs 2020 Foal Gallery is up and running if you would like to see some pictures of the latest arrivals.

Works
The fences are up, the gates are on, the trees and bushes are planted (well the ones the cockies haven’t picked at), the roads are defined and the drainage just needs a fine tuning at Beds For Tail’s. It is coming along great for the future. Christoph needs to do some upgrading of the pastures next. This is only half of what needs to be done, but progress is progress and in a couple of months the last of the yearling boys will be moved.

Breeding
The 2020 breeding season is about to begin. The first vetting of the dry mares has occurred with a couple looking that they might be early covers. The procedures for walk-ons during the COVID crisis have come in so not quite as straight forward this season as others. If you are still thinking of a stallion, then this month we’ll look at De Gaulle.

De Gaulle
202008NewsFrom a family “with a lot of upside” describes the stallion De Gaulle. He is by the up and coming sire of sires Exceed And Excel, with sons the likes of Sidestep, sire of the 2019 Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi; Helmet, sire of international star Thunder Snow; Reward For Effort, sire of multiple stakes winner Gold Symphony being just a few of the outstanding horses boasting Exceed and Excel in their sire line.

De Gaulle is from the multiple Group 1 winning Charge Forward mare Response, dam of the 2018 Golden Slipper winner Estijaab, and stakes placed Alter Call. A family boasting early maturing types with speed. De Gaulle did not race due to a career ending injury sustained in a trial. But he was able to show his ability with two trial wins, in one beating subsequent group winner Pariah.

In 2020, De Gaulle will be standing his 4th season. His first season crop are just starting to hit the trial circuit, with the first being off to a great start . Christoph was impressed with the foals born in 2019: “When I saw his first crop foals, I was blown away by their substance, given he was such a young stallion. His second crop are no different. They are all well put together and just improve as they grow older.”. Standing at $5,500 (inc. GST), De Gaulle is great value to access blood lines that produce precocious runners of speed and this done at the highest stakes level. To produce a stakes performer at a bargain price, you cannot go past De Gaulle.

Welcome
A new client has joined us at Bombora Downs, and he has brought a stallion with impeccable bloodlines. Frankel My Dear (Frankel (GB) x Buenos Aires (IRE)) becomes the first son of Frankel (Galileo) to stand at stud in Australia. He is out of the Listed placed Rainbow Quest (Blushing Groom) mare Buenos Aires. His second dam is Benediction (Day Is Done) who produced the multiple Group 1 winner and champion in Might And Power (Zabeel). This is also the family of Group 1 winners Beauty Parlour (Deep Impact), Mosheen (Fastnet Rock) and Lucky Owners (Danehill). The stallion is standing privately but is open to a limited number of outside mares. If interested, please contact Christoph as soon as possible.
