Stallion Roster 2016

Bombora Downs are excited to introduce the exciting international stayer Dandino (GB) who will commence his stud career in 2016

Dandino (GB)

Dandino’s outstanding turn of foot made him one of the best international 2400m horses of his era. Dandino was the winner of the time honoured Gr 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket and is best known to Australians as the fast finishing and unlucky second place getter in the Gr 1 MRC Caulfield Cup.

In a testament to his ability and longevity Dandino raced every season from a two-years-old until retirement at eight years of age. He achieved a Timeform rating of 120 as a four year old, 122 as a six year old and 120 again as an eight year old. An outstanding individual, Dandino is a supremely athletic horse with plenty of quality. He possesses a striking dark brown coat, a smart eye, large jowl and is a very correct horse. He is blessed with a brilliant temperament and breeders who see the horse are likely to be extremely impressed.

Dandino is a son of Dansili who is one of the world’s best stallions. Dansili is responsible for over 100 stakes winners at over 10% stakes winner to runner. His ability to produce a horse suited to Australian conditions has been proven not just by Dandino but also by Group One winners Foreteller and Grand Marshall as well as the star filly Soft Sand who was bred on Southern Hemisphere time. Dansili is now establishing himself as a sire of sires through his son Zoffany who was Champion First Season Stallion in both Great Britain and Ireland last year and has started promisingly in Australia.

Dandino joins our resident stallions War Horse, Jungle Ruler, Lago Delight and Therock in 2016.

A Group One winning two-year-old War Horse, like current leading first season sire by winners Sidereus, is by the influential colonial speed sire General Nediym. War Horse is completely free of Danzig and subsequently his ever present son Danehill. With his first crop foals due in 2016 we encourage breeders to make a point of seeing the War Horse foals on arrival with a view to booking your mares.

Jungle Ruler’s talent and longevity makes him a hugely attractive proposition for breed to race mare owners. By the ill-fated but hugely successful Lion Hunter, Jungle Ruler won twenty races and $875,000 and in doing so attracted a cult following amongst Victorian racing fans. With progeny on the ground he is strongly stamping his stock, giving breeders confidence to send their mares to get a ‘type’.

Lago Delight is an extremely well bred son of the Champion Sire Encosta De Lago. He has proven himself to be a great source of winners, with nearly 60% of his runners winning and as such is a great option for those wishing to race the progeny of their mares.

Rounding out the line up is Therock who is a stakes horse son of the breed shaper Fastnet Rock. From the family of Group One winning two-year-old and exciting young sire Reward For Effort Therock had an exciting racing career that was unfortunately curtailed by injury. From the few that have hit the track in the early stage of his career, his progeny have proven themselves across Australia.
